Horrible Online Quilting Experience

Before I get into my rant, have you noticed my new pet? It's Tux - he's over on the right. You may need to scroll down to see him. It's kinda of hard to see. However, at the bottom right of him there is the word "more" - see what happens with it.

I won't mention the name of the quilt shop, but ................. Can you tell from the number of .'s, that I am very, very upset with the "entity?" It was a horrible experience. The entity's website obviously had a quilt kit at an incorrect price. I wanted the kit and the more I thought about it, I wanted one not only for my brother, but also for my brother. So, I ordered 2 kits and 1 pattern. I placed the order late Friday night. Saturday afternoon, I received a call from a male at the shop who told me the price on the website was incorrect. I thought the price listed was the price of the pattern, since the pattern was the same price. He told me the kit was ten times the price listed on the site. I had actually thought about ordering 10 of them and gifting them. However, I thought that was not a proper thing to do. I did not sleep at all Friday night. I don't sleep some nights due to my disability and I really don't sleep when I am upset. I wasn't surprised when I was informed that the price was incorrect. Before I had to take disability retirement, I tested computer applications, some of which were websites. I had a reputation for being a "picky" tester. I checked everything I could possibly think pertained to an application, down to spelling and grammar. The site has some incorrect "formal" grammar, too. OOPS!!!! So, I asked the male what he was going to do. He said he could not afford to lose $ on the deal. I told him that he also had the kit offered for that price, too. So he told me what he could do. He said he needed to speak to his wife. I said I needed to speak to my husband. I would have agreed to part of the deal. I knew that my husband would have no problem with me ordering the kit, if that is what I wanted to do and that is exactly what he said. BTW, I thought the gentleman had offered a little too much in the deal.

Before I had a chance to call the quilt shop back, I had a business call from my grandson's biological mother. I also had a call from a very close friend of 30+ years concerning her girls who are six weeks younger than my daughter. We were into some intense conversation. As soon as I hung up the phone, a woman at the quilt shop called me. Immediately she called me to tell me that she owned the quilt shop, not her husband. The offer he had extended would not be honored. I had told the man that I also had options such as calling the Better Business Bureau. Since I had mentioned the BBB, that had apparently hacked her off. I believe that is why she removed both offers (the x offer on the internet and [(x-3)*10] + free shipping) offered by her husband. She would not even let me explain myself. It was her way or the highway. She certainly did not have on her listening ears. I was livid. I ended up hanging up on the person (as you notice I cannot call her a lady). Her husband acted like a gentleman.

When I checked the About Us page, the wording led me to believe that they are full business partners. They appear to travel together as vendors - it appears they are equal vendors. They are partners. If I were her spouse, I would be hurt to be "thrown under the bus" by my spouse.

The next time I checked my email, I had a letter from the woman, telling me that I needed to reconsider my actions. With how ever many years of business and transactions, she had never been reported. She told me they were honest. Well, between what she told me about the ownership of the business and the decision making and what is portrayed on the net, there is a difference in my mind. I told basically that she didn't have her "listening ears on." I told her I would take full responsibility. I removed my name from their mailing list. I told her I had not made the kits I had ordered from their website and I will find them a good home. I told her that like Paul (Bible), I am a chief sinner.

I agreed not to report her to the Better Business Bureau. The more I had thought about that, I thing that is absolutely the incorrect thing to do. In the school system, folks like that are called BULLIES. I was married to one of those for a long time. I will not flame them here but telling who they are. I just hope they are not teaching their son to be a bully, too. Geez! I am greatly considering reporting them to the quilt hop to which they belong. I told her that I would tell all my friends to be alert to their business practices. If you offer something at one price and don't have it (as they didn't have any of the kits), isn't that the old "bait and switch"??????????? Obviously, I dont't (any never have had) a link to the shop.

On a happier note, I didn't find the pattern online anywhere else, but... I found the fabric for it other places and several of them were less expensive than at that shop. God is gracious!!

Rain, rain, rain

We have had more than our share of rain. We have had over 28" of rain since the 1st of April. From the beginning of the year until now, we have had the wettest year on record thus far and yes, you guessed it. It is thundering and lightening now. It is very dark and the rain cannot be far behind. Fortunately, we have never been in any danger of having our property flooded.

I'm in the mood to quilt, quilt, quilt. My last post was telling of my excitement over taking the Double Wedding Ring Quilt. The project for the class was a tablerunner. I knew that I didn't want to make a tablerunner. So, I decided to make a baby quilt for my great niece, Natalee. Of course, I need more fabric. I need to make a run to the store as soon as it opens. I haven't been able to quilt due to health issues. Now that I'm starting to have what appears to be a "good spell," I want to work on her quilt, even if the spell only lasts for a day or a few hours.

When I feel good for a period of time, I not only want to quilt, I want to buy fabric for future projects. My local quilt shop is having a sale to celebrate the shop's birthday. Also, one of my very favorite online shops This -n That is celebrating a birthday with a sale. I want to buy, buy, buy from there! Imagine that! I have a hot link to the right for the online shop!!! Hint, hint, hint! I believe in sharing the good news.

Fun Quilting Day

Saturday I took a wonderful class in Double Wedding Ring. It is a quick and easy method compared to the traditional piecing method. This uses interfacing. You can either trace your the pattern onto fusible interfacing or use pre-printed interface from Quiltsmart. I almost completed one block in 5 hours. I can't really say it took that long. I already had some preliminary cutting work done. I also did some extra sewing toward some other blocks. The bottom line is that I am hooked and have added it to my list of quilts that I want to make. I have always, always, always wanted a double wedding ring quilt. My first husband bought me one for our king size bed. It was not a cheap quilt by any means. However, it was not long before some of the places began to pull apart. As soon as I get batteries in the camera, I will post a picture of the block. I took the class at The Cotton Patch.

Shreep, shreep, shreep

Yesterday was a day of nothing but shreep, shreep, shreep. My son-in-law called at noon and woke me up. He said that it was noon. I barely said that I knew it was. He commented that I didn't sound like I felt well. I said that I didn't feel well. He was just wondering if we wanted our grandson for part of the day. I knew that they had a wedding to attend. Actually, we did, also. I knew that there was no way that I was going to get to the wedding that we were supposed to attend. It was over 100 miles away, I was in agony, I hadn't scrubbed yet, and nothing was ready for the wedding, so we weren't going. He said that our darling two-year-old grandson was being wonderful and he could take him to the wedding with him. So, I said, "Thank you, Jesus." and let him go with his daddy.

So Little Time - So Much To Do

First, EJ (Grandson) was over again today. He sure is the light of our life. Time flies when he is here.

Today would have been my dad's 87th birthday. I guess it doesn't matter how old we get, we still miss our parents.

Quilting wise - I still have the gross grain ribbon to put on the two quilts for church. I just have to get those finished and out of the house and off to folks who can put them in the hands (or should I say laps) of folks who really need them.

I have a couple of quilts cut out - one is a doll quilt. I've started it. It's only 9 blocks, backing, and border. However, it's going to take me some time because I plan to hand quilt it, so that I can get some practice because I want to hand quilt another quilt I have planned.

The other quilt that I have cut out is a small lap quilt - again for church. A guy quilt - guy things in the print. I'll machine piece and quilt it. I need to just do a little on each on them each day, if I can at all.

I started knitting on my first ever pair of socks. The yarn is delightful. It is so soft. The pattern is Swirl Socks and the yarn is Kollage. I just started the first sock last night and already I have thirty rows. I know, I know - that's not much. Remember I have fibromyalgia and we had our 2 year old delightful grandson today. I'm exhausted and IN PAIN, shall I say.

Oh, yeah. My good friend Kathi called and she's been having WEEKS - not just DAYS at work. She thought about who her craziest friend is and so she came over and we yakked and yakked.

She was a labor and delivery nurse for years and then an attorney. Can't tell you what she does now. You can imagine that we already had lots of secrets after 30 years.

She wasn't living here and we had lost temporary touch when I went through breast cancer. Well, I'm going through the tests to see if the cancer is back. It's worse every time going through the scares. The first time I knew when I left my primary care physicians' office. This time no one is sure yet, so I had to go the surgeon. He's not sure, so I have to go have a unilateral mammogram and an ultrasound - and the waiting for each appointment is awful. Geez! And in the meantime - I go for my first six month appointment to the oncologist - go figure.

Charity Quilt #2

I'm almost finished with my second quilt for church. We go to Asbury Methodist Church in Tulsa, OK. It's a large church. The quilting group makes lap quilts for mostly members of the church who are ill or for some reason would need a lap quilt. I say mostly members because I know one was given to an ill sister of a member. I finally got the binding finished. My grandson just loves the quilt. He comes to it and just feels it. Obviously, he is very tactile. I'd love to give the quilt to him, but I can't. Most of the fabric was given to me by the leader of the quilting group. I did add some fabric. I hope to get a picture taken an learn to post it. I'm a little apprehensive about adding the ribbon. We are supposed to add approximately 9 - 18" ribbons to the quiilt - I don't know in what placement. I guess that's up to the quilter. Then there is a prayer team that ties the ribbons as the members of the prayer team prays over the quilt. Our newest pastor has asked that she have a quilt in her office at all times so that she has one readily available, if it is needed.

Rick, my husband, has commented that so many of the quilt fabrics are florals and, therefore, tend to be more femine. My next quilt for the church has already been cut out. It has nuts, bolts, screwdrivers, wrenchs. I think you get the idea. It's very bright. I'm kind of excited about it.

For a beginning quilter, I have so many kits and so many ideas. In the doc program that I had to forego, I took a creativity class. I was never short of ideas in it. It was about teaching creativity to gifted children. Both of my children are gifted, even though the school system missed identifying each of them. Tuesday I recieved what I had anticipated to be the fabric for a new quilt. Since I had ordered it from the internet, I made a huge mistake (lol). The backing for the quilt I thought was bright red, black, and white. Well, it's orange, brown, and ecru. So, I'll just get some brown and ecru fabric and muslin fabric and try out the blocks for the quilt and use the backing fabric (all 8 yards of it) for charity quilts, somehow. It's lovely fabric - I just like bright red - not orangy red. I guess I'll learn to call and ask. I even had a call because one of the fabrics I ordered the site was out of. It turns out that the replacement fabric is the fabric that I love. The other fabric I ordered for the blocks is much larger than I desired. Live and learn. I can use it for something to - fabric is never wasted.

Thursday, I received another kit - it's a Christmas kit. I love it.

Grandkids - (Un)Luck of the Irish

Yesterday we (hubby and I) were supposed to have just the grandson EJ, but his half-sister Tasha came along for the dropoff. Tasha wanted to stay, so we agreed. What a mistake! She was just diagosed with some form of ADHD and the medicine that was first prescribed did not agree with her and the prescribing doctor has not been contacted for new Rx yet. So she was hyper to the max.

EJ is used to having Ga and Pa's undivided attention and we are used to giving him our undivided attention. So, we feel that we did not give him our best to day.

Next week he goes to the dark side (his dad's) for visitation. And, yes, his dad is my biological son.

There is the week after. Hurrah! And then there is court for EJ's visitation and custody. God watch over the proceedings and hold that baby close for protection - AMEN!
